What’s the Theme of the 2016 Met Ball?

Are you ready to get really, really excited? Luxe Models has learned that Vogue recently announced the theme for the 2016 Met Ball!

Event of the season

The film industry has the OSCARs. The music industry has the GRAMMY’s. The TV industry has the EMMY’S. The fashion industry has the Met Ball, an annual fundraising gala hosted by the iconic Vogue Magazine. OK it’s not an awards ceremony but it’s the fashion event of the season.

The event, which is organised by legendary Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, has a theme every year. Last year’s theme was ‘China: Through the Looking Glass,’ and it was an absolute smash. It prompted a number of oriental-inspired creations including Rihanna’s over—sized, elaborately-patterned yellow frock, which (almost) had a longer train the Princess Diana’s wedding dress!

Now we know the theme of the 2016 Met Ball. Here’s a clue; it’s sponsored by Apple, one of the largest tech firms in the world. Still no idea? The Independent reported that the theme of the 2016 Met Ball, and the exhibition the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute will hold after, will be ‘Manus x Machine: Fashion in the Age of Technology.’ 

We also know who’s going to host the event. According to Vogue global superstars such as Taylor Swift, Idris Elba, Miuccia Prada, Karl Lagerfeld and Nicolas Ghesquiere will all co-chair the gala. As Apple is sponsoring the ball, they’ll be joined by the global tech firm's chief designer, Jonathan Ive.

Age of Technology

Meanwhile, the exhibition will explore the tradition of handmade haute couture and the advent of technology with machine-made fashion. The showcase will feature over 100 hand-made and ready to wear costumes, along with more innovative displays such as workshops designed to explain newer fashion production techniques such as 3D-printing. 

Commenting on the exhibition its curator, Andrew Bolton, said: "Traditionally, the distinction between the haute couture and prêt-à-porter was based on the handmade and the machine-made. But recently this distinction has become increasingly blurred as both disciplines have embraced the practices and techniques of the other.”

See why we said you’d get really, really excited? With the theme Manus x Machine: Fashion in the Age of Technology, the 2016 Met Ball is set to light the world of fashion on fire. Its accompanying exhibition, meanwhile, will provide us with a fascinating exploration of how technology and style have evolved together throughout modern history.

Do Celebrities Have the Power to Influence Politics?

With the US 2016 presidential election creeping every closer, this week Luxe Models thought we’d ask whether a few celebrity endorsements could swing the result.

Power of celebrity

Celebrities are aspirational figures. People look up to them, and the role model status of famous faces can translate into big bucks, as companies often hire celebrities to serve as the faces of their latest products. The most obvious one we can think of is Cheryl Fernandez-Versini. Since she was hired as the face of L’Oréal, she has generated attention, press and above all revenue for the beauty firm.

US election

So we know that celebrities have power, but do they have the power to influence who’s elected to government? We may be about to find out. Even though it’s over a year away, campaigning for the 2016 US presidential election has already begun. The presence of one man outrage-machine Donald Trump, who’s running to represent the Republican Party, has already made this contest one to watch!

Speaking of Republicans, they’ve managed to rack up a few celebrity endorsements so far, but we doubt they’ll do the GOP any good. Chuck Norris is the most famous person to endorse a Republican candidate so far. In contrast the Democrats have attracted heavy hitters including Beyoncé, Lena Dunham Jennifer Lopez, Snoop Dogg and Kerry Washington.

Oprah effect

So if celebrities have the power to influence politics then as things stand, the Democrats look set to sweep the board in 2016. Yet how useful is the endorsement of a celebrity of Beyoncé’s calibre? This issue was recently analysed by the Guardian.

The article looked at a study that was conducted to determine how much of an effect Oprah’s endorsement of Barack Obama had on the 2008 election, which he won. It found that “Obama did better than expected in areas where more people subscribed to O magazine.” For any of you that didn’t already know, O is the personal magazine of Oprah Winfrey (yeah, she’s that awesome)!

Fame = influence

The study found that the more famous the celebrity, the more influence they had in the political arena. This isn’t surprising to us here at Luxe Models because it makes sense; people like Oprah Winfrey are trendsetters in everything that they do, why wouldn’t they be able to set political trends too?

Five of the Best Celebrity Friendships Ever!

Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato have finally put their ridiculous feud behind them. We’ve decided to celebrate this fantastic news here at Luxe Models by revealing the five best celebrity friendships ever!

Burying the hatchet

There’s nothing we love more here at Luxe Models than a famous friendship. Back in the late 00’s there was no better match than Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato. They were both Disney stars, both fabulous and both ladies knew how to make a bold fashion statement. They had a bit of a falling out last year, but according to Movie TV Tech Geeks they made up last week, posting a selfie online to prove that this famous friendship is back on!

This heart-warming news got many of us at Luxe Models thinking about all the other headline-spinning famous friendships that have cropped up over the years. Here are five that we believe show the true value of friendship!

• Cox and Aniston: Jennifer Aniston and Courtney Cox met on the set of their hit show Friends in the 90s and never looked back. Since the wildly popular programme ended in 2004 Cox and Aniston have remained incredibly close, and Courtney even served as maid of honour at Jen’s wedding this year!

• Barrymore and Diaz: In the mould of Cox and Anniston, Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz became friends when they starred in Charlie’s Angels together. Now they’re total besties, with Barrymore once commenting that "we spent every waking moment together for months and months – and years!" 

• Gomez and Swift: Selena Gomez’ bond with Taylor Swift has endured for years! The two media darlings have been friends since their earliest days, despite the fact that Gomez recently played Swift’s mortal enemy in the short for ‘Bad Blood!’

• Damon and Affleck: We just had to include at least one ‘bromance,’ and what better pair to pick than Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. The two hunky A-listers have been friends since childhood, eventually writing and starring together in critically lauded Good Will Hunting, maintaining a strong-bond ever since.

• Beckham and Longoria: When Victoria Beckham and husband David upped sticks and moved out to L.A. in 2007, the former Spice Girl became fast friends with Eva Longoria. The Desperate Housewives star opened up about the relationship this year, with the Daily Mail reporting that Longoria said “we're best friends and have shares lots of life lessons together.”

Lasting friendship

With these examples to follow, Gomez and Lovato have a lot to live up to now that they’ve finally revived their epic friendship. As Cox, Anniston, Barrymore, Diaz, Gomez herself, Swift, Damon, Affleck, Beckham and Longoria have already shown, a Hollywood bond can last a lifetime!

It’s time to name and shame the A-list set here on the Luxe Models blog this week. Here are the five worst celebrity baby names in the history of Hollywood.

The one thing Luxe Models really hates about celebrities

Here at Luxe Models we love celebrities. They’re fascinating creatures. The activities, style choices and wardrobe blunders of the A-list set keep us endlessly amused every time we open the latest edition of our favourite glossy.

Yet there’s one unfortunate character trait of the average celebrity that fails to amuse us every time it rears the ugly head. The A-list penchant for giving their progeny ridiculous names. Seriously, how are these kids going to survive in the playground with names like ‘Apple?’

Naming and shaming five A-list parents

In other words this week we’re taking a stand for every child forced to endure a stupendous name by their famous parents. The five worst celebrity baby names in the history of Hollywood are…

1)      North West: Only Kanye West could come up with a name that makes him look more arrogant than he did after THAT TaylorSwift incident at the VMAs. He was blatantly trying to be clever when he decided to name his daughter after a point on the compass but it totally back-fired.

2)      Destiny Cyrus: Stop the presses. Miley’s real name is Destiny! Seriously, dad Billy Ray should be flogged for this. No wonder she made such a show of herself at the 2013 VMAS with a name like Destiny!

3)      Apple Martin: God Gwyneth Paltrow’s annoying. Only the queen of GOOP would think it’s a good idea to name her kid after a fruit. She probably got the idea from whatever crazy fad diet she was following at the time.

4)      Kal-El Cage: Apparently Nicholas Cage is a massive geek. How have we come to this conclusion? He named his son after Superman. It doesn’t get any more Big Bang Theory than that.

5)      Zuma Nesta Rock: There are no words. Apparently Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale named their kid after “Zuma” beach in Malibu, which is kind of cool. Yet maybe they should have picked another beach – they’ve made their child sound like an odd mix between a fitness technique and a coffee brand.

This week we want to take this opportunity here on the Luxe Models blog to congratulate Hollywood starlet Zooey Deschanel. Last week saw the New Girl actress announce that she’s expecting!

Why Do Models Never Crack a Joke?

Have you ever wondered why models never crack a joke? You wouldn’t believe how hard it is to make people laugh when you’re rocking killer threads!

That’s why we’ve always admired Zooey Deschanel. The talented actress manages to make us laugh on US TV comedy New Girl on a weekly basis, whilst showing off her fabulous looks with her kooky sense of 60’s style at the same time. Some people really do have it all!

Zooey Deschanel and Jacob Pechenik Announce Pregnancy

Now it looks as though we’re going to have another reason to fill with envy every time our line of site falls on the girl who once shined in Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. She’s just announced that she’s expecting her first child.

According to Digital Spy, Zooey Deschanel’s representative took the time to tell People Magazine that Deschanel and partner Jacob Pechenik are pregnant with their first child. The pair have been dating since mid-2014 and look as though they’re crazy in love, despite the age gap. The New Girl actress is 34, whilst her producer boyfriend is 42!

“So Excited to Meet Our Little One.”

Deschanel’s representative commented to People Magazine that “Jacob and I are over the moon. We are so excited to meet our little one.” 

We bet the actress is also excited by her sister’s recent news. Bones star Emily Deschanel announced that she and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor David Hornby are expecting their second child last year. The pair are already parents to 3 year old son Henry. We bet these cousins will get along like a house on fire!

So congratulations Zooey Deschanel. Congratulations Emily Deschanel. Luxe Models are over the moon for the entire Deschanel family! It looks like you guys are in for an amazing 2015! Who knows, if you keep producing at this rate you could end up taking over Hollywood!

The Red Carpet Prankster Has Struck Again!

Believe it or not, the red carpet prankster has struck once again, so make some popcorn and sit down, as Luxe Models tells you all about it.

Funny Prankster or Scary Stalker?

We’re honestly not sure if we love or hate the red carpet prankster here at Luxe Models. Admittedly, taking a celebrity down a notch or two is something we like seeing, but he does have a tendency to go too far.

Let us explain. Ukrainian media personality, Vitalii Sediuk, seems to have made it his mission in life to hound the celeb set, as they’re swanning in their designer threads down the red carpet.

It can be hilarious, but when he does stuff like punch Brad Pitt, or kiss Will Smith, of which he has done both before, he kind of crosses from funny prankster into the realm of scary stalker.

His Latest Victim… Kim Kardashian West

He was most definitely the latter in his latest stunt, which took place last week. So what did he do? Well he tackled Kim Kardashian West while she was sashaying down the red carpet for the Balmain show at Paris Fashion Week.

Gossip site Digital Spy featured footage of the incident last week, and you can clearly see the reality star’s legs being tackled by the arguably mentally unhinged prankster as she gets out of a car.

However, he was quickly lifted away by security, who then went on to help Kardashian West, along with her husband Kanye and mum Kris Jenner, into the building.

Obviously, the Kardashian camp has said absolutely nothing about this at the time of writing – they’re not likely too, but a spokesperson for the celebrity hounder has commented. All they said was that Sediuk did manage to tackle Kim’s legs. That’s not really helpful, is it?

Nothing Should Draw Attention Away from Paris Fashion Week!

Was there actually any point to this? We admit, it gave us something to talk about around the water cooler, but there’s one reason we’re really annoyed about it. It drew attention away from Paris Fashion Week. That is no in way acceptable, as it featured some exciting summer 2015 trends we can’t wait to have stocked in our wardrobe!

We love celebrities here at Luxe Models. Whether they’re getting snapped by the paps in a compromising position, making controversial statements about the difficulties of fame, or making waves with their tediously dramatic love lives, we simply can’t get enough.

Yet for some reason celebrities sometimes come under the delusion that their opinion on current events actually matters. As Rihanna proved with her #FreePalestine tweet last week, it really doesn’t. All it does is create a storm of controversy (which let’s face it, they want) and give us gossip fanatics something to talk about.

These Five Celebrities Just Can’t Shut Up About Politics

Some celebrities have a serious case of verbal diarrhoea when it comes to all things politics, and the following five celebrities just can’t seem to stop sharing their political opinions: 

1)      Madonna: The material girl is no stranger to causing a little controversy (remember the Sex Book?) and in recent years she’s taken to airing a number of divisive political statements, whether it’s calling President Obama a Muslim (Fox News practically salivated at that) or imposing incendiary images onto the faces of far right French politicians!

2)      Angelina Jolie: To be fair, she is a representative of the UN, she kind of has to get political, but does she have to keep doing it looking as though butter wouldn't melt! If she adopts one more baby from one more foreign country, she may just have the whole world metaphorically living under one roof!

3)      George Clooney: As we’ve recently blogged about, George Clooney certainly isn’t afraid to take on the press, and if recent rumours are to be believed, he certainly isn’t afraid of the sharks in Congress either, as he might soon be getting involved in politics himself!

4)      Eva Longoria: She’s come a long way from her days as a desperate housewife, and Longoria has taken to vocally speaking out about immigration on the US; an issue she’s said more than once is close to her heart.

5)      Sean Penn: Penn is as likely to make headlines these days for his political activism as his acting career. A staunch Democrat, Penn has taken to protesting over a number of hot political issues in recent years, including most notably, the Iraq War.

We honestly, don’t care about what any given celebrity actually believes, but we do love it when they take a break from the glittering lights of tinsel town, to make a few headlines with their latest must-read opinion on the politics of the day; if only because it gives us something to talk about around the water cooler!

Kate Winslet welcomes third child

Luxe Models were over the moon to hear that Kate Winslet has given birth to a healthy baby boy at an NHS hospital in Sussex. The 9lb bundle of joy is her first with husband Ned RocknRoll and her third child over all.

The couple have been married for about a year now, having wed last December in New York, 18 months after they met. Ned RocknRoll is the nephew of billionaire tycoon Richard Branson. Born Abel Smith, he was formerly married to socialite Eliza Pearson. He changed his name by deed poll in 2008. He is employed at Virgin Galactic, Richard Branson’s space travel company, where he holds the title of Marketing Promotion and Astronaut Experience.

Winslet and RocknRoll were wed in an intimate ceremony just before Christmas last year, so intimate that apparently neither one of them told their parents! Kate’s two older children, Mia and Joe were there however, and rumour has it her Titanic co-star Leonardo DiCaprio gave her away.

Some sceptics have suggested that Kate is perhaps a bit of a “love-o-holic”, who enjoys being swept up in the romance of a new relationship, but the Luxe Models team reckons they’re total cynics! Ned and Kate seem really happy together and they’re no doubt going to have a great Christmas together with their darling addition.
